Funeral service for Rita Jo Minton Parker, 71, of Piedmont will be Friday, May 13, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Thompson Funeral Home with Pastor Ashley Penton officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 10:00 – 12:00. Mrs. Parker passed away Monday, May 9, 2022 at her home. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Buster Parker; her son, Rodney Eugene Parker (Lara) of Spring Garden; two grandsons, Hunter Parker (Ashley) and Tanner Parker (Sheyenne) all of Spring Garden; step granddaughter, Raegan Bagwell (Jordan); great granddaughter, Kensleigh Brook Parker; one brother, Eddie Lamar Minton (Gail) of Piedmont; four sisters, Betty Sue White of Arab, Elsie Fay Gaddy of Piedmont, Eula Jeanette Ray (Wayne) of Opelika and Hattie Treva Hanvey (Jeff) of Piedmont; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Hunter Bryant Parker, Tanner Lee Parker, Craig Head, Brad Hanvey, Scott Young, Tommy Hartline, Paul Wood, Terry McCord, Tim White, Terry Young, Barry Smallwood and Brian Franklin. Mrs. Parker was a lifelong resident of Piedmont where she was a member of Goshen Valley Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Springs Industries, was a caregiver and enjoyed sitting on her front porch drinking coffee while watching the deer and turkeys and listening to gospel music. Rita Jo was a wonderful cook and enjoyed working with her flowers and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Odis and Clyde Minton; four sisters, Nellie Bea Wood, Margie Ann Boatwright, Linda Kay Young and Carolyn Frances Minton; and one brother, Albert Thomas Minton.
