Funeral services for Mr. Olen James Ray, 85, of Piedmont will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip Cooper and Rev. David Ingram officiating. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Ray passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Grace B. Ray; three children, Phil Ray (Lynda) of Rome, GA, Ivan Ray (Pattie) of Cedartown, GA and Tanya Barnes (Tim) of Anniston; four grandchildren, Michael Ray (Amanda), Laura Ray, Meredith Kinard (Scott) and Jonathan Ray; four great grandchildren, Michael Ray, Anderson Kinard, Matthew Ray and Cooper Kinard; one sister, Martha Hubbard of Zachary, LA; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Johnny Hubbard, Larry Hubbard, Stephen Ingram, Danny Stone and Scott Kinard. Mr. Ray was a native and lifelong resident of the Piedmont area. He was a graduate of Spring Garden High School, was a U.S.Army WWII veteran, retired from SCT Yarn with 36 years service, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Piedmont, enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and watching Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball.
