Funeral services for Rev. Lewis E. Ward, 65, of Spring Garden will be Tuesday, September 4. 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. James Ward, the Rev. Ricky Pollard and the Rev. Chris Tierce officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Union Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5-8 p.m. Rev. Ward passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Cherokee Medical Center. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mary Ballew Ward; a daughter, Amanda Ward Davis (Greg) of Rock Run; a son, Kevin Ward (Kaylee) of Spring Garden; four grandchildren, Dalton Gilley, Drake Gilley, Macie Davis and Lily Kate Ward; two sisters, Laura Frances Ward of Opelika and Lynn Ward Sayers (Bob) of Piedmont; two brothers, Rev. James Ward (Donna) of Stockbridge, Georgia and Rev. Thomas Ward (Angie) of Tallapoosa, Georgia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Ted Acker, Mike Davis, Buddy Maddox, Rodney Ragsdale, Gary Pope, Fred Spears, Scott Ward and Kenny Ballew. Honorary pallbearers will be area ministers. Rev. Ward was born in Calhoun County and had lived in Spring Garden most of his life. He was a graduate of Spring Garden High School, was a U.S.Army Vietnam veteran, was the recipient of the purple heart, and retired from the Anniston Army Depot with 35 years service. He served as pastor of Bethel Baptist Church for six years and was pastor of Pleasant Arbor Baptist Church for 21 years. He was a member of the Cherokee County Baptist Association and sang with the Foothills Quartet for 10 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone. Rev. Ward was preceded in death by a daughter, Vanessa Ann Ward; his parents, Rev. Hubert and Margaret Ward; and a brother, Bobby Joe Ward.
