Funeral service for Dorothy Davis Vanderford,85, of Piedmont will be Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Piedmont First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Neal officiating and Thompson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. Mrs. Vanderford passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019 at her home. Survivors include her daughter Debra Vanderford Ledbetter of Piedmont; two grandsons, Kevin Hamrick (Brittney) of White Plains and Jeff Hamrick (Re Anna) of Lincoln; four great-grandchildren, Coleman Hamrick, Arabella Hamrick, Lorelle Hamrick and Madelyn Hamrick; one sister, Ophelia Formby of Piedmont; one niece, Diane LeCroy (Phil) of Piedmont and several great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be, Phil LeCroy, Wesley Holbrooks, Clay Sparks, Mark Formby, Matt Minton and Eric Ray. Honorary pallbearers will be Coleman Hamrick, Lorelle Hamrick, Arabella Hamrick, Madelyn Hamrick, Jimmy LeCroy, Barry Naugher and the Frank Wofford Sunday School Class. Mrs. Vanderford was a lifelong resident of Piedmont where she was a member of the Piedmont First United Methodist Church and a member of the Frank Wofford Sunday School Class. She graduated from White Plains High School and was a majorette the first year they had a band. She worked at several local florist where she was a floral designer. She loved her family and was married to her husband, John Vernon Vanderford for 62 years before his death. She especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, working outdoors and was a wonderful cook. Mrs. Vanderford was preceded in death by her husband: John Vernon Vanderford; parents, Norris and Redith Davis and a nephew, Gerald Formby. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Piedmont First United Methodist Church, 300 North Main Street, Piedmont, AL 36272 or to the Piedmont Rescue Squad, PO Box 333, Piedmont Alabama 36272. The family gives a “special” thank you to Pat Morrison, Amedisys Home Health Care of Anniston, Amedisys Hospice of Gadsden, Gadsden Regional Medical Center’s MICU, especially Anna Stevens and Donna Putnam and the 6th floor nurses for all the love and care given to Mrs. Vanderford.
