Roger Brent Kiser

Roger Kiser, age 65, of Centre, Alabama (formerly of Goshen Valley near Piedmont), departed this life on Thursday, August 18, 2022. A celebration of life service will be Saturday, August 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Haynes officiating. Burial will follow at Gnatville Cemetery in Piedmont. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 12:30 -2:00 pm at the funeral home. Roger is survived by his sister, Lynne Hollingsworth (Gary); brother, Kevin Kiser (Carin); nephews, Jonathan Hollingsworth (Hannah), Timothy Kiser, Thomas Kiser, Benjamin Hollingsworth, and niece, Gracie Richard . He is also survived by his aunt , Jimmie Sue Ledbetter; cousins, Mike Ledbetter, Michelle Ledbetter Sanders, Linda Houck, Harvey Kiser, Marie Goss. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, J.T. and Carol Kiser; grandparents, John and Cecelia Kiser and Ramon and Luda Mae Ledbetter, several aunts, uncles, cousins and special cousin Lisa Cronan whom he loved as a sister. Pallbearers will be brother-in-law, Gary Hollingsworth, nephews, Jonathan Hollingsworth, Thomas Kiser, Benjamin Hollingsworth, cousins, Mike Ledbetter and Rodney Ledbetter, and friend, Joey Lively. Honorary pallbearers will be nephew, Timothy Kiser, Von Ledbetter, Terry Highfield, Harvey Kiser, Randal Gilley, and Roland Houck. Roger was an avid sports fan, cheering his favorite sports teams, the Spring Garden Panthers, Auburn Tigers, and the Atlanta Braves, just to name a few. Roger attended Spring Garden School and Duke School. Roger was a collector of caps, sports memorabilia and he loved gospel music. He often spent numerous hours daily listening to and singing gospel songs. Roger accepted Jesus as a young man, was baptized, became an active member of Pisgah Baptist Church and was one of the founding members of Pisgah Baptist Church’s “Special Class” Sunday school for most of his life until his health declined. Though he was born with a disability, he brought much joy, laughter, and blessings to his family, friends and others that he met. His family extends a special thank you to his cousin June Ledbetter, who was much loved and was Roger’s former Sunday School teacher. She always stayed in touch, often volunteering to help care for him. Also, his family wants to thank the staff of Cherokee County Health & Rehabilitation Center for many years of care, to his friends on station one, and the staff of Floyd Medical Ambulance Services for their compassion and care during the many miles and trips they traveled with him.
