Donald Ray Hayes Sr. passed peacefully surrounded by family and friend at home on March 17, 2018 at the age of 83. He is preceded in death by wife of 61 years Irene Prickett Hayes; Parents Earnest and Sara Hayes; Brothers James, Ernie, Robert, Sammy and Alan Hayes; Sister in laws: Louneil (Bram) Horne, Louise Prickett; Brother in laws: James (Jane) Prickett, Tommy Hopkins, John Bussey, and Gerald Green. He is survived by children: Wanda (Jimmy) Posey of Hokes Bluff, AL, Ray (Ana) Hayes of Marrietta, GA, Ronny (Diann) Hayes of Trussville, AL, Billy (Brittany) Hayes of Canton, GA and Greg Hayes of Marrietta, GA; Grandchildren: Scarlett (Briana) Hayes, Jennifer (Shane) Watson, Sherilyn (Will) Roberts, Will (Tammy) Posey, Scott (Mandy) Hayes, Mark (Rebecca) Hayes, Kristie (Tyler) Clark, Thomas Hayes, Andrea (Jason) Sirard, Becky Hayes, Danielle Hayes, Bryson Hayes, and Bailey Hayes; Step Grandchildren: Jennifer Torrence, Kyle Rippey, Kevin Rippey, and Kaylee Cochran; Great Grandchildren: Nathan Scovill, Andrew Watson, Sarah Posey, Matthew Latham, Tyler Watson, Ivey Hayes, Grace Latham, Liam Hayes, Allie Posey, Lonnie Hayes, Jacob Clark, Ford Hayes, and Leah Clark; Step Great Grandchildren: Hunter Howard, Cole Massey, and Amber Nicolson; Sisters: Janis Bussey, Mary Green, Debbie (Ronald) Rochester, Lynn (Gary) Williams. Brothers: David (Valarie) Hayes and Johnny (Donna) Hayes. Sisters in Law: Ann Hopkins, Diane Hill Hayes, Diane Duncan Hayes, Betty Hayes, and Glenda Hayes; Brother in Law : Franklin Prickett. Upon retiring from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 32 years, Don moved to Toccoa, GA with wife, Irene. He became interested in real estate and had a 20 year career as a real estate agent at First Toccoa Realty. Don enjoyed being with family and friends, bird hunting, reading, watching documentaries (or as his niece Sandy would say, "watching monkeys scratch their butts"), and his daily "splash" of fine scotch. He was an avid lover of cars and followed the stock market daily. The family would like to thank caregivers Michelle Alexander, Sandy Williams, Jane Clayton, Faye Payne, Misty Allen, and Kim Pitts. Celebration of life will be held Sunday March 25, 2018 at 2 pm CST at Gadsden Downtown Civic Center 623 Broad St. Gadsden, AL 35901. In lieu of flowers the family requests offerings can be made in Don's name to the Caring Food Fund Hokes Bluff First United Methodist Church 3001 Alford Bend Rd, Hokes Bluff, AL 35903
