Brenda Jo Lawler

Brenda Lawler, a lifelong resident of Piedmont, Alabama, was called home to be with the Lord on July 8, 2026. She departed this world the same way she lived her life, surrounded by the people who loved her most, filled with joy, and probably already planning what she was going to cook for Sunday dinner. Brenda was a devoted follower of Christ and a faithful member of Thankful Baptist Church. Her love for the Lord was evident in both her service and her daily life. She faithfully served as President of the Missionary Society, Sunday School teacher, Secretary of The Matrons, member of the Missionary Matron Choir, Vacation Bible School teacher, and an active participant in Bible Study and Sunday School. She considered serving God not simply a responsibility, but one of the greatest joys of her life. She served the people of Piedmont as a volunteer with the Calhoun Judicial Program. Consistently giving of herself to those around her. Brenda was the heart of her family, a devoted wife, loving mother, proud Granny, cherished sister, treasured aunt, beloved niece, and faithful friend. She possessed a remarkable gift for making everyone feel at home. Anyone who crossed the threshold of her home was welcomed with open arms, a warm smile, a full plate, and unconditional love. Her home was more than a house; it was a place of comfort, laughter, fellowship, and belonging. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Earl and Magnolia Johnson; her grandmother, Janie Father; her three brothers, Tommie Prater, Earl Ammons, and George Johnson; and her sister, Bertha Sherrill. No doubt, they joyfully welcomed her into Heaven. Here on Earth, Brenda leaves behind the love of her life, her devoted husband, Henry. Just days shy of celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, the beautiful life they built together stands as a testament to enduring love, unwavering faith, and steadfast commitment. Their marriage was an example of God's faithfulness and a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come. She also leaves behind the pride and joy of her life—her three sons and their families: Patrick and Kim Lawler and their children, Dominique and Sarah Ward and their children Cameron; Shanika Brown and her children Joe, Messiah, and Comari; Ronley and Stefaney Brown; Jacquez Lawler; and Marquez Lawler; Bryant Lawler; and Rodney and Jennifer Lawler and their children, Bennett and Carter. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Johnnie Ball (Samuel), Earlese Culberson, Vicky Jackson (James), and Myra Cottrell (Vincent). Brenda also leaves behind two very special sisters-in-law who became not only family, but devoted caregivers and cherished friends: Carol Fairs and her children, Adrian (Erica) Fairs and their children Adrian Jr. and Tadrian; Curtis Fairs and his children Heather (Courtney) Hood and their children Elijah, Isaiah, and Courtney Jr., Silas Thompson, and Cassius Fairs; Zachary (Sandy) Fairs; and Mary Lawler and her children Schitina Smalls and her daughter Jessica, Dion McCoy. She also leaves behind her beloved godchild, Demarcus Prater, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and dear friends who loved her deeply. To each of them, Brenda was more than family; she was home. Brenda never measured her life by titles or accomplishments, though she had many of which to be proud. Instead, she measured it by full tables, a house overflowing at Christmas, the laughter of her grandchildren echoing through every room, conversations that lingered long after dinner had ended, and the countless memories created with the people she loved most. Her legacy is one of unwavering faith, genuine kindness, extraordinary generosity, and unconditional love. While her family will forever feel the profound emptiness her absence leaves behind, they are deeply grateful for the immeasurable blessing of having known and loved her. The lessons she taught, the traditions she lovingly created, and the love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts and lives of all who were blessed to know her. Though their hearts are broken, they rejoice in the promise of eternal life and remain forever grateful for the incredible gift of loving Brenda. They find peace in knowing she is whole again, embraced by her Savior, and reunited with those who went before her. Until that glorious day when they are together again, they will carry her love, her faith, and her beautiful example with them always. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at Thankful Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the church. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens.
