On January 07, 2025, Susan Gloria Wood McCain danced through the Pearly Gates of Heaven. Gloria was a God-fearing woman who loved wholeheartedly. She was born February 07, 1951 and was a talented woman that could cook, bake, sew, crochet, play the piano, kill and field dress a deer, weld, lay brick, and anything else she put her mind to learning. She was a lover of all things red which would typically resonate in her red lipstick, red nail polish, red clothing and especially her red knee-high boots. She was a hard worker, with a work ethic and drive with a touch of stubbornness she carried throughout life. She never backed down to a challenge and always stood for what was right. During her amazing life, she was the wife to Tony McCain, mother to Tina (James Storey), Tammy (Jeffrey Knotts) and Richard (Rebecca Headrick), and Granny to Madison Storey (Derrick Goswick), Anthony Howell, Riley Storey (Ashley Westmoreland), Alyssa Howell, and Ethan McCain. Though she led a full life loving and caring for her husband, children, and grandkids, she still managed to accomplish so many things like earning her black belt in taekwondo, developing the greenest thumb and bringing all floral she touched to life, caring for those in need, giving to the less fortunate, and working with the Cherokee Baptist Helping Hands Ministry. She loved her church, New Prospect Baptist Church and the WMU. She earned an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering, a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, and a bachelor’s degree in children’s Christian education from Covington Baptist College and was a Pastor’s wife extraordinaire for 49 years. Her legacy is her unfailing love for others. Never meeting a stranger, she was a blessing to all that met her. To continue her legacy and since she already had the prettiest flowers around, the family is requesting donations in lieu of flowers to The Helping Hands Ministry at PO Box 743, Centre, AL 35960. She is survived by her chosen sisters Annette Jones and Linda Morgan, her dear friend Cindy Acker, brothers Marlin “Buddy” (Gloria) Wood, Charlie Wood, and Tommy (Emily) Wood and sisters Catherine (Danny) Smith, and Sandy (Lewayne) Goodwin. Honorary Pallbearers are grandsons, Anthony Howell, Riley Storey, Ethan McCain, Derrick Goswick and Weslee Lanfair. Funeral service will be Thursday, January 09, 2025 at 5:30 P.M. at Thompson Funeral Home. Services will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Tony McCain, Cherokee Baptist Director of Missions Wendell Dutton and Dr. Brent Kiser. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 P.M. until time of the service. Celebrating her homecoming, the family asks that attendees wear something red. The family would like to send a thank you to Wanda Woody, Cindy Acker, Gloria Wood, and Catherine Smith and a special thank you to Reagan Boyd and Charee Arnold for taking such devoted care of our mother.
