Cecil Elbert Gilley

Funeral service for Cecil Elbert Gilley, 92, of the Gnatville Community will be Monday evening, December 13, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Haynes and Mr. Gary McCurdy officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 4:30 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Graveside service will be Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Gnatville Cemetery. Mr. Gilley passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Piedmont Health Care Center. Survivors include four daughters, Vickey Goss (Phil) of Spring Garden, Geraldine Stowe (Don) of Centre, Pam Roberts (Harlan) of Jacksonville and Julie Blevins (David) of Gnatville; one son, Jeremy Gilley (Christy) of Kennesaw, Georgia; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson (David), Josh Goss (Jessica), Allison Lord (Keilan), Justin Roberts (Donielle), Lee Roberts (Brandie), Joey Stowe (Leigh Erin), Bree Blevins, Lucas Gilley and Zachary Gilley; nine great grandchildren, Taylor Barfield (Kyle), Kristen Johnson, Kole Chandler, Caroline Goss, Kate Goss, Sawyer Stowe, Anna Stowe, Kamden Lord and Lizzie Roberts; one great great grandchild, Jackson Barfield; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Josh Goss, Justin Roberts, Lee Roberts, Joey Stowe, Zach Gilley, Luc Gilley, Kole Chandler and David Johnson. Mr. Gilley was born in Calhoun County and lived most of his life in the Gnatville Community in Cherokee County. He was a United States Army veteran and had been an active member of Pisgah Baptist Church until declining health prevented him from attending. He had worked as a self-employed pulp wooder for many years and was an avid and well-known fisherman. He was a member of the Hollow Stump Hawgers Bass Club, loved Gospel music and gardening. Mr. Gilley was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Alred Gilley; a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Gilley; grandson, Jordan Mackey; granddaughter, Amber Roberts; parents, Elbert and Venice Gilley; sister, Helen Bonds; and brother, Rickey Gilley. The family would like to express their appreciation to caregivers, Sherry Prater and Barbara Blevins and the staff of Piedmont Health Care Center for the love and excellent care given to Mr. Gilley.
